Dear NLUS Levante Council Members:

It has been a pleasure to serve as your President for the last two years.  As we go into our Annual General Meeting, I would like to express my appreciation to the officers who have served on your Board and thank all of you, our members, for your aid and assistance during my tenure as president.

We have been able to entertain and assist numerous military personnel from visiting ships, NATO, and various bases and posts in Spain and Europe.   With your help, we have continued to support our charity, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, Rota, Spain, and made a donation to the commissioning of the USS Stockdale.   The Levante Council is also listed in the Honor Roll of Donors at the Memorial Museum in Pearl Harbor following our donation to the USS Arizona Memorial Fund.

We have continued to welcome and support the Armed Forces.  In one instance, this led to a request from the last ship in port, the USS San Jacinto, for a community relations project on the Costa Blanca.  We arranged for the Captain and a crew of volunteers to go along and paint rooms in one of the Emaus homes for protected children.  The next day, those same children were welcomed aboard the USS San Jacinto ...a tour of the ship, milk and home baked cookies….a day they and I will never forget.  There have been many special moments I have enjoyed as your President, but that was a time I will remember with pride.

Exciting News!  The NLUS Levante Council website is up and running.  You can access our web site via www.navyleaguelevante.org.  General information is provided on the home site, but further information can be accessed at the top of the page under:  President’s Corner, Newsletters, News and Our Community… another way to share information.

The NLUS Levante Council Member Listing has been updated thanks to Ruth and Hav Nydus and is now available.  I have provided new NLUS Levante Council badges for all members.  Do ask for one if you have not received yours.

It is now time to welcome in a new Board, and our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, 29 January at a new venue:  Villa Marisol in Calpe.  A map is provided below.  The slate for 2011 is President – Peter Langley; Vice President – John Power;  Correspondence Secretary – Ruth Nydus; Recording Secretary – Barbara Power; Treasurer – Bryn Summerhayes; Deputy Treasurer – Awaiting nominations; Judge Advocate – Erik Hulleman; Deputy Judge Advocate – Angela Niblock.  Directors:  Helen Duckworth, Judith Lewis, Derek Needham, Alistair Niblock.  All offices are open for nominations. Nominations should be forwarded to the nominating committee prior to the AGM, but will be accepted from the floor at the meeting.  Absentee voting forms will be sent to members upon request and must reach the nominating committee prior to the AGM.  Don’t forget that only fully paid up members are allowed to attend and vote at the AGM.  If you have any doubt as to your status, please contact me or Ruth Nydus.

Thank you once again for your support of the NLUS Levante Council during my presidency.   I do hope you will come along to the AGM for my last meeting as your President and to show your continuing support for the Levante Council and the present and incoming Boards.
