CHRISTMAS 2010

Our Christmas luncheon was held at the beautiful Restaurante Puerto Blanco in Calpe. It was lovely having 59 members and guests with us to enjoy the start of the holiday season. We were pleased to raffle the wonderful Christmas cake made by Judith Lewis, won by Paco Roca Monza, and the delicious fruitcake offered by June Nash. After lunch, special guests Aileen and Gordon Lightfoot led the members with a lively selection of Christmas carols.

It is always a pleasure to welcome new members, and I am delighted that Vivien Nice as well as Dr.Derek & Pamela Cornthwaite have joined our NLUS Levante Council family.

This year at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 29 January, NLUS Levante Council officers for 2011 will be elected. Nominations for all officers should be forwarded to the nominating committee prior to the AGM, but will be accepted from the floor at the meeting. Absentee voting forms will be sent to members upon request and must reach the nominating committee prior to the AGM. All offices are open for nominations. Those uncontested at the moment are: President – Peter Langley, Vice President – John Power, Correspondence Secretary – Ruth Nydus, Recording Secretary – Barbara Power, Treasurer – Bryn Summerhayes, Deputy Treasurer – Awaiting nominations, Judge Advocate – Erik Hulleman, Deputy Judge Advocate – Angela Niblock. At the present time the only offices with more than one candidate are the offices of Director. We have five members vying for the four places available: Helen Duckworth, Judith Lewis, Derek Needham, Alistair Niblock and Campbell Waterman Voting forms will be distributed, collected, tallied and the results declared at the meeting. Don’t forget that only fully paid up members are allowed to attend and vote at the AGM. If you have any doubt as to your status, please contact Ruth Nydus.

Remember that any changes to your contact information should be in to Ruth Nydus by the end of December. Our NLUS Levante Council web site is in the final stages, and I’ll email you as soon as we are operational.

We have a new venue for our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 29 January 2011: Villa Marisol, behind the Salt Flats in Calpe. A map will be sent before the meeting. Hopefully many members will be attending this new venue specifically chosen for our AGM luncheon.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish members, friends, family and our members overseas a wonderfully Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
